O’s Notes: Cautious Clay (Joshua Karpeh) is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Cleveland. He also plays flute, saxophone, bass clarinet, guitar, synthesizer, and bass. Clay makes his Blue Note Records debut with Karpeh, a bit of a history lesson intertwined with the music that parallels the path of African Americans in the US through the eyes of one family. Julian Lage (g) appears on three tracks notably “Another Half” and “Unfinished House”. Ambrose Akinmusire (t) and Immanuel Wilkins (sax) appear on “Yesterday’s Price”. We also enjoyed “Moments Stolen”. This is good music and a solid message!
