O’s Notes: Albright has a unique signature among contemporary jazz sax players. His sound is soulful and on the edge, like he’s giving us his all 100% of the time. The notes come out clean but as if they were gasps or pleas. The effect works well in conveying emotion and taking him away from too-smooth elevator music. Gerald also plays the bass lines on this release. He collaborates with Jeff Lorber (keys) for a few tunes that also include guitarist Tony Maiden. The cool funk that emirates from these tracks is infectious especially on “Throw Yo’ Hands”. We also liked “Kickin’ It Up with George Duke (p). It’s the stuff that makes your head bob and spirits rise!
