O’s Notes: This is yet another collection of Miles tunes, a two disc set release on the 50th anniversary of Kind of Blue. That title is arguably the best jazz album of all time, certainly it is the best selling! The all-star lineup includes John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley on sax. The differentiator here is the inclusion of the complete studio sessions (5/58, 3/59 & 4/59), all takes, session chatter and a bonus live recording of “So What” (4/60). The music is supplemented by excellent liner notes that give the listener further insight and depth. No matter how many ways these Columbia recordings of Davis are packaged, we enjoy listening to them each time.
