O’s Notes: Guitarist Ed Stone leads a soulful smooth jazz set leading a band with Mark McGruder (keyboards), Al Turner (b) and Ron Otis (d). Ed wrote 9 of the 11 selections and arranged and produced the entire set. The cool rhythms are punctuated by the keyboard (strings and brass) accents and softened by Ed’s buttery smooth fretwork. Stone adds vocals on three selections notably “No Limit”. But we mostly preferred the instrumentals: “The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”, “Satin Lover” and the title track.
