O’s Notes: John is a crooner who also plays guitar. He does both tasks very well. He is at peak performance here starting on “Black Coffee” where he has an excellent scatting/guitar solo. He’s shadowed by Harry Allen’s warm tenor sax on “Shadow of Your Smile” and joined by dad, Bucky (acoustic guitar) on several cuts, notably “New Sun In The Sky”. Ken Peplowski adds clarinet on a couple of tracks to balance a very good session.
