O’s Notes: This is a tribute to the musicians who initiated the contemporary, soul-jazz movement. That includes legendary B3-master Jimmy Smith, Gene Ammons, and Stanley Turrentine. It is a live recording at Chan’s in Woonsocket, RI November 2013. The lineup is Duke Robillard (g), Dave Limina (B3), Jesse Williams (b), Lorne Entress (d) and leader Dan Moretti (sax, fl). It only takes a few words to describe the session: “They are cookin’!” Standouts are “Da Du Dah”, “Free For All”, and “Low Down”.
