O’s Notes: Trumpeter Michael Sarian was born in Canada, raised in Buenos Aires and is now based in New York. His latest album was recorded Live at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit! Sarian is backed by a rhythm section with Santiago Leibson (p), Marty Kenney (b), and Nathan Ellman-Bell (d). The live audience primed the pump for an energetic performance of nine songs, including eight originals, some from prior albums and a few new. Ample improvisation and varied tempo keep it fresh. “Primo”, “The Pilgrim”, “Glass Mountains”, and “Aurora” are highlights.
