O’s Notes: Veteran jazz saxophonist Ken Peplowski was hit hard during the pandemic, caught COVID, lost his dog and was diagnosed with blood cancer. He persevered, got a new puppy and is recovering well. He started a weekly streaming show with pianist Ted Rosenthal, bassist Martin Wind, and drummer Willie Jones III. You can hear them on Ken’s latest recording Live at Mezzrow. Peplowski plays clarinet and tenor sax over ten warm classics. They play ballads like “All The Things You Are” & “The Shadow Of Your Smile”, and up tempo treats “Like Young” with a cool solo by Wind & “Bright Mississippi”. With all of Ken’s tribulations, he’s still on top of his game, breathing passionate warmth into each song.
