O’s Notes: This compilation features Cal in several of his performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival. He partnered with many of the best during those performances. We liked Buddy DeFranco (cl) and Vince Guaraldi (p) on “Summertime” in 1958; Dizzy and Clark Terry on “Manteca” in 1972; and Mongo Santamaria’s “Afro Blue” in 1974. Of course Cal is on his game playing the vibes all the way through. This is more of the great live performances at MJF.
