O’s Notes: The Dave Brubeck Trio featured Dave on piano with bassist Eugene Wright and Joe Morello keeping time on Live From Vienna 1967, an energetic session. Brubeck is out front for much of the set, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The trio establishes themselves on “St. Louis Blues” with strong solos around the horn. That’s the vibe for the entire 43 minutes and five selections. This was a tour that initially planned to feature Paul Desmond (sax) in a quartet, but Paul was a no-show. The thunderous applause is a measure of the music and the success of the Trio alone!
