O’s Notes: New York-based guitarist and composer Perry Smith plays straight-ahead jazz, burning on the opener, “Starlight Skies” one of three originals. The band is a quartet with Melissa Aldana (sax), Matt Aronoff (b) and Jay Sawyer (d). There are more burners notably “Premonition” and a couple of solid ballads like “Don’t Worry About Me”. We’d enjoy seeing Perry live, in a small club setting like The Nest Session, the site for Live in Brooklyn.
