O’s Notes: This live session was captured at the 1948 Jazz Festival in Nice, France. Louis is in prime form on his trumpet and singing. The band Armstrong’s All-Stars, is exemplary with Jack Teagarden (tb, vocals), Barney Bigard (cl), Earl Hines (p), Arbel Shaw (b) and Sid Catlett (d). They play ten classics including vocal tracks that were fully embraced by the French audience. Among the best, “Black And Blue”, “Rockin’ Chair” and “Dear Old Southland” with Hines standing out. The album was just released by Dot Time on high quality vinyl (limited edition) as well as digitally and it is truly a delight!
