O’s Notes: This Jazz Icons DVD captures the legendary Jimmy Smith Live in Paris during 1969. He performs in a trio with Eddie McFadden (g) and Charlie Crosby (d). It is black and white video but the close-ups are great and they pull back to let you see Jimmy working the bass pedals with his feet! And seeing him work the keyboard adds to our enjoyment. McFadden is on his game with several warm solos. This is Smith in his prime defining jazz with the B3 in a way that still resonates.
