O’s Notes: Keyboardist and composer Bob Thompson leads the band on his latest release Look Beyond the Rain. He is joined by Doug Payne (sax), Ryan Kennedy (g), John Inghram (b) and Tim Courts (d). It is a collection of contemporary jazz that touches pop, R&B and funk. All band members except Payne add vocals notably on “You Are The Traveler” with Bob taking the lead and “We Need More Love Today” featuring Courts. We enjoyed “Fly High” and “Hot Shot”, both mellow instrumentals featuring Thompson, Payne and Kennedy. They dial up the funky for “Funk On the 1” and get bluesy on “Benny G” making this a diversified set with something for everybody.
