O’s Notes: Drummer Richard Baratta is a bit nostalgic on Looking Back, focusing on popular hits from the 60s and 70s! He leads a fine band with arranger Bill O’Connell (p), Vincent Herring (sax), Paul Bollenback (g), Michael Goetz (b), and Paul Rossman (perc). There are warm Latin flavors on “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”. That vibe continues in an extremely mellow mode throughout the set. Special guest vocalist Carol Scott adds vocals on “Feeling Good” and “Hey Jude” with Janine Schwarz. Bollenback shines one “Purple Haze”. We also enjoyed “Whole Lotta Love”, and “Respect”.
