O’s Notes: Lush Life was made from Coltrane’s recording sessions during 1957 and 1958, after his breakout performance with Miles Davis and during his stay with Thelonious Monk. That’s before his more adventurous explorations into free jazz and beyond. There is great attention to the melody on five songs including the title track. This is another element of Trane that is sometimes overlooked. This is one of Fantasy’s first SACDs. It has great depth and less noise than the CD.
