O’s Notes: This is a classic recording from 1971 led by Lonnie Smith (organ, clarinet). Grover Washington plays flute and sax on “Stand” with Ron Carter (b), Billy Cobham (d), Jimmy Ponder (g) and Airto Moreira (perc) among the talented support. There are only four songs, two covers and two originals, but they are all solid. Smith is the focal point working the keys melodically and as glue holding the groove together.
