O’s Notes: Mongorama is a Cuban band inspired by the music of Mongo Santamaria led by Latin jazz radio host José Rizo. Mariposas Cantan is like a Caribbean festival, non-stop, Afro-Cuban music that makes you want to move! Among the best of many are “Watermelon Man” and “Mariposas Cantan”, both with fierce sax solos from Justo Almario, “Como Fue”, a ballad featuring vocalist Yoshigei Rico, and “Helen of Jazz” featuring Danilo Lozano (fl). The album is dedicated to the late timbales maestro Ramon Banda whose spirit lives on in this music.
