O’s Notes: This is pianist Emmet Cohen’s second volume in the Master Legacy Series. This time he’s partnering with iconic bassist Ron Carter and Evan Sherman on drums. When Carter is playing the band is swinging and that is certainly the case here. We enjoyed the four-part “Salute to Cedar” with three of Walton’s classics, and Carter’s “It’s About Time”. Ballads dominate the set but they also shine on the few up-tempo songs like “Hatzi Kaddish” and especially “Joshua” wrapping up a warm session.
