O’s Notes: This is all new music from Dr. John dedicated to Johnny Mercer. The arrangements have a New Orleans twist of course and feature those gruff vocals and definitive piano playing of Dr. John. The approach works very well freshening the Mercer tunes and letting the Doctor operate successfully with a new release. We liked the blues on “Lazy Bones”, “I Ain’t No Johnny Mercer” and “Come Rain or Come Shine”. Dr. John is true talent, able to shine on a number of fronts. Mercernary is a prime example.
