O’s Notes: Saxophonist Chris Greene is a new voice on the jazz scene playing contemporary jazz-fusion tilted more towards the straight-ahead side. He opens the set with “Good Riddance!”, a funky tune with a lot of punch. It turned out to be one of the best of the nine selections including four originals. The band is a quartet with Damian Espinosa (p), Marc Paine (b) and Tyrone Blair (d). The opener was not the only good piece. We also enjoyed the mellow tones of “Lotus Blossom” and “You’ll Thank Me Later”. Greene’s sax tone was a little thin but well defined as he carved through the melodies surgically. Chris is worth checking out and shows lasting potential.
