O’s Notes: Bassist Oliver Potraz and drummer Eric Schaefer provide steady beats that serve as a solid foundation for the exploratory free experimentation coming from leader, tenor saxophonist Gebhard Ullmann and pianist Hans Lüdermann. The quartet invites us into mikroPULS, an adventure that challenges our perceptions over and again through eight tracks. It seems like bees are swarming on the opening of “Human Body Upgrade” before the layers unfold and the rhythm kicks in. That turns out to be our favorite track of the set, a session that is truly unique.
