O’s Notes: Elise Wood-Hicks (fl), wife of the late pianist, John Hicks and Larry Willis (p) assembled a legacy band to celebrate eight of his fine compositions. Craig Handy (sax), Eddie Henderson (sax), Curtis Lundy (b) and Steve Williams (d) make up the rest of the band. They do a fine job of keeping his music current. Highlights are “Blues In the Pocket”, Avotcja” and “Heart to Heart” featuring the Henderson and Wood-Hicks combining on the melody. These are tunes that speak of warmth, romance and relaxation.
