O’s Notes: Mr. EP: A Tribute to Eddie Palmieri“is a worthy dedication to the 80-year-old Puerto Rican pianist. Palmieri plays on three selections and remains a force! Elsewhere, piano duty is split between Eduardo Zara’s and Bienvenido Dinzey. Charlie Sepulveda’s work on the trumpet is vibrant, punctuated and interlaced with the percussion from Raul Maldonado (d), Godwin Vargas (congas) and Gabriel Rodriguez (b). Brass melodies from Charlie and Norberto Ortiz (sax) give us that festive Caribbean vibe. There is also a stunning rendition on “Besame Mucho” featuring vocalist Yarimar Denise. Among the best of the rest are “Bomba Pa Carmen” and “Mr. Jazz” making this a fine session.
