O’s Notes: Drummer Billy Hart plays behind many popular jazz artists, but he takes the lead on Multidirectional in a quartet with Mark Turner (sax), Ethan Iverson (p), and Ben Street (b). Hart is celebrating his 85th Birthday on this live set captured at Smoke Jazz Club in NYC. The music is mostly original but includes a unique cover of “Giant Steps”. Our favorites are the warm “Sonnet For Stevie” and “Showdown”.
