O’s Notes: She’s got a voice that is a cross between Cassandra Wilson and Sade. But she has her own signature and it’s cool. The beats have a funky, folk twist with acoustic guitar, violin and congas. There’s an East Indian flavor as well courtesy of the Indian musicians. Lyrics are mostly in English with a dash of French adding to the mystique. The pick hit is “What Silence Said”. We also like “Meanwhile”. Raman is a strong new entrant on the female vocal contemporary jazz scene, one to watch.
