O’s Notes: Pianist, composer Cyrus Chestnut leads a trio with bassist Peter Washington and Lewis Nash on drums. It’s hard to believe Cyrus is almost 60. He recently lost his father at 85, the man who inspired and encouraged him to play piano from an early age. My Father’s Hands is dedicated to McCormick Chestnut, a dad, a true man worthy of much applause and more than these ten selections. They open with the swinging blues of “Nippon Soul Connection” Followed by the swanky Caribbean vibe of “Cubano Chant”. Cyrus shines on “Babbles, Bangles and Beads”, “But Beautiful” and “Yesterday”. Great memories.
