O’s Notes: Detroit native bassist serves up a large dose of urban contemporary jazz for My Finest Hour. It is a powerhouse, funky fusion set. There are also a couple of ballads with soaring sax solos from Ladarrel Johnson as on “Ace In The Hole” and “Brooklyn Blues”. Bey does a fine job with several strong solos scattered throughout the session. This is a fine example of old school instrumentation working extremely well in 2015 and hopefully going forward. Nice job Ali!
