O’s Notes: The title says Maceo but this is much more than just Maceo Parker. The story is about the JB Horns, Parker (alto sax) Pee Wee Ellis (tenor sax) and Fred Wesley (tb) who achieved their early success with James Brown. This is their story and how they evolved. This horn section branched out as the JBs and then with successful solo careers. They always support each other and play with a groove that is now classic. You’ll feel the funk. The video includes interviews interleaved between 18 hot songs including a soulful tribute to Marvin Gaye on “Let’s Get It On” featuring bassist/vocalist Jerome Preston. Other artists who appear in the footage are George Clinton and Kim Mazelle.
