O’s Notes: New York based drummer, producer and composer Mark Guiliana is among the most creative and experimental drummers on the contemporary music scene today. He’s performed with many notable jazz and pop artists including David Bowie, Brad Mehldau and Avishai Cohen. My Life Starts Now is one of his two recent releases as a leader. He gets support from Stu Brooks (b), Yuki Hirano (keyboards) and Michael Severson (g) with vocals/spoken word from Gretchen Parlato, Jeff Taylor and Meshell Ndegeocello. Guiliana’s music is heavily infused techno-electronics occasionally packaged with spoken word and lyrics to describe his evolution. It is provocative, adventurous and a certainly a change of pace.
