O’s Notes: Wallace has gotten over the comparisons of his playing with that of Miles. Roney was a protégé and he put a lot of Miles into his foundation. Wallace acknowledges proudly that you’ll hear similarities but does well to create his own space. His wife Geri Allen (p) and brother Antoine (sax) join him along with a solid rhythm section including Matt Garrison (b), Adam Holzman (synthesizers) and Eric Allen (d). The program starts out on a contemporary trip with “Atlantis” and then Roney’s own “Stargaze” and “Nice Town” with Val Jeanty on turntables. Wallace’s arrangement of “Just My Imagination” is followed by the reggae beats of “Hey Young World” and the cool bop of “Poetic”. This set provides a nice array of cool contemporary jazz.
