O’s Notes: Gupta marries the old and new forms of Indian music with western jazz/pop. The title Namaskar shows respect and pays homage to his Indian heritage. Sameer’s choice of musicians includes westerners Marc Cary (p) and David Boyce (fx sax). He also includes Pandit Anindo Chatterjee (Sarangi) and Prandit Ramesh Misra (tabla). Both are legendary Indian masters of their instruments. The marriage of east and west on “Salaam”, “Colours” and “Jangle” are shining examples of the strong fusion they achieve. “Walk With Me” is a bit jazzier as is “Puriyah Harlem Dhanashree” featuring Cary. It is a novel approach with great results.
