O’s Notes: Saxophonist David Sills is a mainstay on the LA-jazz scene. The absence of a piano in many venues led him to doubling up on guitars forming a unique quartet. Larry Koonse (g), Mike Scott (g), Blake White (b) and Tim Pleasant (d) are the support and they keep things flowing. Scott makes his presence known on “Minor Monk” trading the melodies with Sills and Koonse does justice on “Sink Or Swim”. Both guitarists shine in lead and rhythm roles throughout the set with Sills commanding the spotlight. We enjoyed the lazy tones of “Mellow Stone” and the relaxing “Quiet Is The Star” with Sills playing flute. It is a well-balanced session.
