O’s Notes: These two sessions were recorded in 1961 featuring the buttery smooth sound from Nat’s cornet both muted and natural. It was his first recording in a quartet. The rhythm section is split with Joe Zawinul (p), Sam Jones (b) and Louis Hayes (d) playing the first 4 tunes followed by Wynton Kelly (p), Paul Chambers (b) and Philly Joe Jones (d) on the second half. The program includes cool standards like “Oleo”, “Images”, Zawinul’s “Scotch and Water” and the title track written by Adderley. This music has staying power!
