O’s Notes: New Chordtet is a Connecticut-based quintet with Dave Santoro (b), Peter McEachern (tb), Mike Drubbo (sax), Jimin Park (p) and Tom Melito (d). The self-titled release is their debut in the current configuration. They play ten selections, three by the late, legendary Lee Morgan that define the modern jazz theme of the session. We also enjoyed “I’ve Got Your Number” and originals “Cosmos” (Santoro) and “Native Mode” (McEachern) in a swinging set.
