O’s Notes: Beethoven first did the pairing of mandolin and piano with classical music. Denny and David combine their respective genius to give us a jazz take. But it’s more than just a jam session. Both musicians are well accomplished and enjoy their work. Denny’s technical excellence on piano smoothes the funky dawg music that Grisman has come to be known for resulting in a warm sound that works well. It sounds far more conventional than we initially expected, and in a pleasant way.
