O’s Notes: Bay Area-based pianist, composer and bandleader Anne Sajdera forms a band featuring Miroslav Hloucal on trumpet and flugelhorn and Jan Feco on alto sax both from the Czech Republic. There are a wealth of other musicians and special guest Bob Mintzer who plays tenor sax on the opener “Pictures”. Jason Lewis (d) and Dan Feiszli (b) are the core anchors for most of the tunes. There is a cool swagger on“New Year“owed to Sajdera’s five originals with three by Hloucal. The international team does a fine job making modern jazz that is at home anywhere and certainly in our studio!
