O’s Notes: John Stein is a composer and guitarist who seems to never age, navigating through many hurdles. Next Gen is dedicated to his five grandchildren, pictured on the cover. The album includes a song named for, and characterizing each of them. Stein has been recording for over 30 years and recently retired from teaching at Berkelee. This is a trio outing with Ted Lucie (b) and Mike Connors (d). The music is heartfelt and deliberate.
