O’s Notes: The young (34) Alexander is maturing into a jazz sax virtuoso. He continues to learn and appreciate the range and tones of his instrument. The ‘impurities’ associated with some of the high notes take away what could be termed sterile. The quartet includes Harold Mabern (p), Ron Carter (b) and Joe Farnsworth (d). There are eight new Alexander compositions that swing with lots of energy.
