O’s Notes: Jazz trumpet master Sean Jones assembles a strong band including Orrin Evans (p), Luques Curtis (b) and Brian Hogans (sax). They open burning on “Look and See” with drummer Obed Calvaire pitching in a fierce solo. They maintain the pace on “Olive Juice” with a calypso beat led by Khalll Kwame Bell (perc) before slowing down for “Momma” a soothing ballad. Sean shines on the title track, another ballad before they return to the heat on “Look and See” with nice work by Evans. No matter what the pace is, they make a worthy statement. The music has elements that are solidly grounded on the traditional side of our Jazz Rulerª but also accessible to a broader audience. This cat seems to get better with each album!
