O’s Notes: Souza sings with warm and well-articulated lyrics. The messages hit home. She focuses the energy around the piano where Bruce Barth, Fred Hersch and Edward Simon split duty. Scott Colley (b), Clarence Penn (d) and Donny McCaslin (sax) balance the band, a great combination for delivering Luciana’s arrangements. There are six cool classics like “Corcovado” and “Never Let Me Go” along with two of her own. Good stuff.
