O’s Notes: Shareef Clayton plays trumpet and leads a sextet to perform eight original compositions and a fine cover of “Softly As A Morning Sunrise”. Clayton grew up in Miami and now resides in New York City. He invites numerous guest artists to accentuate the music including a string section on two selections. We preferred the instrumentals to the lone vocal track. Among the best are “Emotions” and “The Feeling”. Clayton’s variety of approaches and tempos make North & South a very good session.
