O’s Notes: Calvin Johnson, Jr. is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader from New Orleans, and he does the Crescent City proud on Notes Of A Native Son. HIs primary accompaniment is Ryan Hanseler (keyboards), Peter Harris (b) and Trenton O’Neal (d). There are fresh arrangements of “Summertime” and warm ballads like “Jewel’s Lullaby”. We enjoyed the groove on “Tremendous” and “Streetcar Love” featuring vocalist Erica Falls.
