O’s Notes: Javon moves into contemporary space with this fusion release while not forsaking his jazz roots. The quintet gets funky on “Chief Blackwater” featuring the rhythm section: David Gilmore (g), Kenny Davis (b) and Greg Hutchinson (d) all with cool solos. Lisa Fischer steps up to the mic on “Love Calls” and “Where Is The Love” breathing romance into the session. There’s more funk with “South Side Eddie” with Dr. Lonnie Smith (organ) and “Fun Time” and “Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose”. Javon is there every step of the way with his tenor sax making it happen!
