O’s Notes: Troy Roberts is a bright new star on the urban jazz scene and he’s definitely worth a listen! He wrote most of the songs excluding one collaboration. The rhythm section is Eric England (b), Silvano Monasterios (keys) and David Chiverron (d). They are rock solid, funky and very tight, laying down the foundation for Troy’s melodies. Roberts let’s them play on the funky intro to “Shavon” co-written with England. The soulful lead line “Liberty Nights” shows Troy’s passionate side. The music is heavily syncopated with catchy riffs and a good blend of warmth, funk and swing.
