O’s Notes: The Fabian Zone Trio features Steve Hunt (keyboards), Steve Michaud (d) and leader Christian on bass. They are a seamless unit that plays jazz-fusion reminiscent of some of the best bands from the 1970s yet they sound fresh today especially on “Back Again”. Guest saxophonists Lance Bryant and Bill Vent extend the pallet on a few of the ten selections. The trio excels throughout the set with “Special K” serving as a showcase for Fabian and Michaud. Selections 6-8 and 10 have a serious infusion of funk. We really enjoyed “Of the Essence”, “Warriors Of The Rainbow” and “The Curtain Reveals”. This is a cool album with two faces, both enjoyable.
