O’s Notes: Doctor Bruce has put together a swinging bop CD! He started by assembling a fine band including Bill Mays (p), Ray Drummond (b), Charlie Shoemake (vibes) and Larance Marable (d). Eskovitz plays sax and he does justice to this Sonny Rollins tribute. Ernie Watts joins him for “Tenor Madness”, one of the many bright points. We also liked “No Moe” and “Pent-Up House” with Shoemake’s work on vibes. But there are no duds in this set, just preferred moods and textures. The Dr. has musical healing powers!
