O’s Notes: This 1996 release is a culmination of some of the best songs from Ferguson. The electrifying highs and vibrato that he reaches on trumpet are unmistakable. There are nine classics including “Manteca”, “Birdland” and “Milestones”. Each of them is arranged in Maynard’s upbeat, happy, brassy style. Trombone player Tom Garling wrote two of the nine tracks including the fresh opener, “You Got It”. It SACD mode, you’ll appreciate the crisp brass even more.
