O’s Notes: This Video contains two episodes of the 1980 TV series “Ad Lib”, one of the first stereo television music broadcasts. Pianist Phil Moore was the host of the show and he highlighted the best jazz voices. Freddy Hubbard (t) is showcased here with Billy Childs (p), Larry Klein (b), Buck Clark (perc) and Stephen Houghton (d). Hubbard is in prime form here as is a young Childs. Both shine on “UK Forty”, a highlight in a set of gems. They wrap up Show #40 with “There Is No Greater Love” featuring Freddie playing flugelhorn. That warm sound continues into Show #41 on “Love Connection”. We also enjoyed “UK Fortyone”.
