O’s Notes: One Take is an impromptu series featuring polished musicians attacking music for the first time together in the studio. Volume Four includes the venerable Joey DeFrancesco (B3), Vito Rezza (d), Robi Botos (p) and Phil Dwyer (sax). They start out swinging on “There Is No Greater Love” with Phil and Robi leading the melody anchored by Rezza with punctuation by DeFrancesco. Dwyer breathes seduction into “Tenderly” then increases the pace for “Village Green” setting the stage for hot solos around the horn. These guys are having fun and the listener will feel it. Joey cooks on his tune “Not That”, a cool blues burner. There are only six songs and they are all good especially the smoking take on “Broadway”. All of the solos have a jovial spirit and good feel. We hope Volume Four is not their last together ’cause this unit works!
